“Maybe I’ve already lived too long,” Ashildr said softly. “It’s cold…” She was having trouble keeping her eyes open.
“I’ve always preferred science to magic. But even science has a price that needs to be paid. I found that out the hard way.” He nodded, leaning back in the chair.
“You and me both. I’ve buried lovers, husbands, friends…children,” Ashildr sighed. “I pay for it all the time. You’re secret’s safe with me as far as your name goes,” She added thinking he’d understand why that would be true now. “Wanting to get back the things you’ve lost…That’s not a crime.”
“Thank you,” he nodded his thanks. “Ever since this curse broke, all I’ve wanted is to go home to my brother. Bring him back properly this time. I’ve already had to bury my parents, I’d rather not bury him as well.”
